Jaarverslag 2016: Corbion

Het jaarverslag over 2016 krijgt als ondertitel "Keep Creating" mee.  Corbion has an established biobased technology platform based on over 80 years of fermentation experience. We lead the way in lactic acid as well as in cutting-edge emulsification technology and functional blending capability.

Corbion heeft haar business opgesplitst in twee busines lines, Biobased Ingredients (98% van de omzet) en Biobased Innovations (2%). De eerste Biobased Ingredients bestaat vervolgens uit food ingredients (75%) en biochemicals (25%).

Sinds 2016 heeft het bedrijf een 50/50 joint venture met het Franse Total for the production and marketing of polylactic acid bioplastic (PLA) will be part of this business unit. Deze unit komt bij Biobased Innovations. Biobased Innovations also comprises the succinic acid joint venture with BASF (Succinity), as well as our longer-term development projects such as FDCA, a potential replacement for purified terephthalic acid (PTA), our gypsum-free lactic acid process and the use of alternative feedstocks (lignocellulosic biomass, agricultural residues, or waste) to make lactic acid.

Biobased Innovations sluit vooral aan op Mega trends zoals "Climate change and resource scarcity."

De omzetverdeling is: 63% (Noord Amerika), 6% (Latijns Amerika), 19% (EMEA) en Azië 13%.
Our high performance PLA resin can be used to make a bioplastic for a wide range of applications, ranging from (degradable) food packaging to touchscreen computers and durable automotive components.

Value creation.... For our Food customers we offer market-leading products such as preservatives, lactates, blends, and emulsifiers that deliver proven functional benefits .... manufacturers get the greatest value from suppliers who help them excite consumers with food products that are delicious, easy to prepare, safe, nutritious, and sustainable.

Ook het thema Circular economy past bij de veranderende business van Corbion.

Er is niet veel informatie in het verslag over de organisatie, het Executive Committee bestaat uit de rollen: CTO, EVP Human Resources, CEO, CFO, EVP Biobased Ingredients, EVP Operations.

De CTO rol is nieuw ingevuld in 2016. De voormalig CTO (Sven Thormahlen) stapte in 2015 op om persoonlijke redenen (en werkt nu bij SVP Research, Danone). 
Het management board bestaat uit de CEO en CFO.

Corbion gebruikt kernwaarden (afkomstig uit het company compass waarin - purpose, vision, mission, values, als een organisatiecompas richting geven): Partnership, Passion (for exploring new solutions that meet our customers’ needs) en Performance (We use our knowledge, agility, and dedication to meet the ever-changing demands of our markets).

De outlook voor 2017 is positief, het verslag refereert hier niet aan de economische omgeving of mogelijke politieke instabiliteit.

De strategische risico´s zijn,

• PLA blijft achter bij verwachting
• Raw material en energieprijzen beschikbaarheid en volatilitiet
• Verlies grote klanten

Het verslag van de supervisor board is het gebruikelijke verhaal over remuneratie. Het onderdeel Science en technology committe is inhoudelijk het belangrijkste. Er waren hiervoor vier meetings: The agenda at these meetings covered, amongst other subjects, new technologies, PLA production and application, Food applications, Biochemicals and Medical Biomaterials, and external technology trends
