Conscious evolution (Barbara Marx Hubbard)
Hubbard was een futuroloog, en dit boek van haar werd net voor de eeuwwisseling (in 1998) gepubliceerd. Het fin du siecle spat ervan af.
Ik las het voor het project De Toekomst - over futurologen, trendwatchers, economen en andere speculanten. Zelf heb ik me vroeger bijna nooit concreet zoals voor dit project met de toekomst bezig gehouden.
Je kan dit boek op meerdere manieren lezen. Een van deze is om de referenties te checken op hun actualiteit.
Ik kan niet snel een samenvatting vinden en op Goodreads, vind ik mensen die positief zijn als ook diegenen die het als "New Age Garbage" weg-labellen.
De eerste pagina's beginnen met dit soort woordgebruik: Awakening, Jesus discipelen, emergentie, een nieuwe wereldvisie, het verhaal van de schepping wordt nu duidelijk met Genes, Atomen en de hersenen, nieuwe leiders (Kennedy, King Jr., Gandhi) werden tot nu toe tegengehouden door het immuunsysteem van de oude wereldorde, ... sociale idealisten. We zijn als individuen fysiologisch of intellectueel niet veel veranderd t.o.v. 2000 jaar terug, maar de Noosphere (the mind-sphere, Teilhard de Chardin) is radicaal empowered geworden, de mens in de huidige maatschappij zit opgesloten tussen overlevings-eisen (Maslov) en groei-noodzaak om zelfexpressie en zelfactualisatie voor een cultuur van intrinsieke betekenis te groeien... tot de 20ste eeuw ging het om groei (progress) en vrijheid, maar de twintigste eeuw was catastrofaal en sinds Hiroshima is er een nieuw verhaal nodig. We koersen af op een ramp (klimaat, milieu, overbevolking, sociale alienation, en armoede), een nieuw verhaal begrijpen kan ons redden....
De referenties in het boek staan hieronder, (niet allen zijn weergegeven) als doel om te zien wie van de auteurs - het gaat om een boek over de toekomst - straks nog invloed heeft. Er zijn een paar bekende namen onder hen:

Ik heb dit boek niet kunnen lezen. Ik verdwaal in de goede bedoelingen die ik ook niet goed begrijp.
Het deel Call to Action dat specifiek over de nieuwe initiatieven handelt, en voor de economie over lokale muntunies gaat, vertelt over Bernard Lietaer, die inmiddels overleden, het boek schreef: The Future of Money, beyond greed and scarcity. Misschien is dat een mooi vervolg. Dat boek kende ik namelijk niet.
* (MF) - Ferguson ontwikkelde al snel een blijvende interesse in wat bekend kwam te staan als de 'human potential'-beweging, en in het bijzonder het laatste onderzoek naar het potentieel van het menselijk brein, met de implicaties ervan voor leren, creativiteit en welzijn... De titel van het boek leidde tot enige verwarring, omdat het alleen met astrologie te maken had in de mate dat het putte uit de populaire opvatting van het "Age of Aquarius" dat volgde op een donker "Piscean" -tijdperk. Het woord samenzwering gebruikte ze in de letterlijke betekenis van 'samen ademen', zoals een van haar grote invloeden, de filosoof Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, vóór haar had gedaan (Wikipedia).
** - TdC basishypothese van de innerlijkheid van alle geschapen dingen kan in zijn eigen interpretatie worden gepresenteerd: Dingen hebben zowel een uiterlijk als een innerlijk aspect die nauw met elkaar verbonden zijn. Wie goed keek, vond zelfs in zijn of haar eigen diepten een interieur. Als dit feit eenmaal is gerealiseerd, kan ook op de een of andere manier worden vastgesteld dat het interieur sinds het begin der tijden overal in de natuur aanwezig is. Als Teilhard de Chardin bijvoorbeeld spreekt over het 'binnenste' van de aarde, bedoelt hij niet de diepte ervan in de materie, maar het 'psychische' deel van de materie van het universum dat is ingesloten sinds de eerste verschijning van de aarde. In elk deel van de siderische materie, door de hele kosmos, vormt de binnenwereld alle punten van de buitenwereld... / ... Vanuit deze hypothese ontwikkelt [hij] een wet van complexiteit en bewustzijn, volgens welke een bewustzijn meer geperfectioneerd wordt naarmate het de binnenbekleding vormt van een meer gecompliceerde structuur, zodat hoe meer het bewustzijn ontwikkeld is, hoe voller en beter georganiseerd de structuur is. . Spirituele perfectie en materiële complexiteit zijn slechts twee aspecten van hetzelfde fenomeen. The Phenomenon of Man is het verhaal van de toepassing van deze wet, die wordt behandeld op drie niveaus van de evolutiespiraal: prelife, life en thought.
